For years, my NYC stays were pretty predictable—Upper East Side for the classic charm, Chelsea for the buzz. The Upper West Side? It never made the list. But as fate would have it, a recent trip landed me at Hotel Belleclaire—and just like that, I found myself singing a new tune.

This hotel isn’t just perfect for tourists—it’s a gem for the bleisure traveler and digital nomad looking to blend work with play in the heart of one of New York’s most iconic neighborhoods.

A Blend of Old and New

Nestled on West 77th Street, Hotel Belleclaire is a true NYC gem. Celebrated as one of Manhattan's earliest luxury hotels, it opened its doors in 1903, stunning guests with its unique blend of Beaux-Arts architecture and Art Nouveau-Secessionist style. Many early guests, including renowned figures like Mark Twain, Maxim Gorky, and Babe Ruth, helped establish the hotel’s legacy. Designed by legendary architect Emery Roth, the building’s facade has since been brilliantly restored, earning it landmark status.

A full renovation in 2023 returned the hotel to its original splendor, while adding modern conveniences and upgrades that cater to today’s discerning traveler. Whether you’re in the city for business or leisure, this blend of history and contemporary design provides the ideal backdrop for a productive yet comfortable stay.

Rooms with Personality (and Productivity)

What first caught my attention? The space. In a city where compact rooms are the norm, Belleclaire offers room to breathe. As a digital nomad, having a comfortable, quiet space to work is essential. My Hudson Loft room had high ceilings, wood floors, and a plush king bed that felt like heaven after a day of exploring. A cozy seating nook and a desk by the window gave me the perfect spot to sip coffee while looking out at the iconic Upper West Side and the Hudson River. It’s not just a hotel room—it’s a workspace where you can focus and recharge.

The bathrooms are equally impressive, with a bathtub for a long, relaxing soak after a day of work or sightseeing, and a rain shower that feels like a mini spa experience. Thoughtfully stocked with Frette linens and Five Wits bath products, the bathroom offers a luxurious escape—ideal for the traveler who appreciates a little pampering while away from home.

For those traveling with family or friends, the Family Suite offers a great option. And solo travelers or couples will love the chic yet cozy Broadway King rooms, which are perfect for those blending work and relaxation.

Location, Location, Location

One of the best things about Hotel Belleclaire? Its location. Just steps from Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, and Riverside Park, you’re right in the middle of the Upper West Side action without the crowds of Midtown. The 79th Street subway station is a short walk away, so getting around the city is a breeze. For the bleisure traveler who wants to squeeze in some sightseeing between meetings or for a quick walk during a break, this location is unbeatable.

But the UWS is more than just a convenient base—it has an undeniable charm. Brownstones line the tree-lined streets, indie bookstores like West Side Books thrive, and bagels from Popup Bagels are just a stroll away. The neighborhood has a relaxed, local feel—perfect for unwinding after a busy workday or a day spent sight-seeing.

And foodies, take note: Zabar’s, Levain Bakery, and Jacob’s Pickles are all nearby, making it easy to indulge in some of the best bites on the Upper West Side. When you need a caffeine fix, the hotel’s café, Mille-Feuille, serves up freshly baked French pastries and expertly brewed coffee, so you can grab a pick-me-up between conference calls or meetings.

For digital nomads, the ability to work remotely without sacrificing access to delicious food and coffee is a game-changer.

Allure Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge: Where Luxury Meets Comfort

If you’re looking for a spot to unwind after a day of work, Allure Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge at Hotel Belleclaire is the perfect place. The ambiance strikes a seamless balance between luxury and comfort, with a design that feels both stylish and welcoming.

Enjoy late-night cocktails expertly crafted by the talented bartenders, or indulge in a delicious meal that’s just as visually appealing as it is satisfying. Allure’s interior design offers a unique atmosphere that makes it the perfect setting for everything from a relaxing evening drink to an intimate dinner.

For an unforgettable experience, every Thursday at 7 pm, groove to live jazz music. The mood is perfectly set over shared plates and elevated cocktails, making it the ideal way to wind down your evening. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are always welcome. After a day of meetings or writing emails, it’s the perfect way to transition into a more relaxed, enjoyable evening.

Thoughtful Touches That Make a Difference

Hotel Belleclaire isn’t just about looks—it’s designed to make your stay smooth and easy. A few perks that stood out to me, especially for the bleisure traveler:

  • Wine Hours at the hotel and all hotels under the Triumph Hotels collection.

  • 24-hour fitness center to keep up with your workout routine during your stay.

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi (perfect for working remotely, attending virtual meetings, or planning your day).

  • Free walking tours of the UWS, with insider tips on hidden gems in the neighborhood—great for a midday break or an evening stroll after work. Guests can also attend walking tours at all sister properties connected to the Triumph Hotels collection.

  • In-room dining so you can satisfy your cravings without leaving your room during those busy work days or late nights.

Why I’ll Be Back

The Upper West Side might not have been on my radar before, but after staying at Hotel Belleclaire, I’m hooked. With its perfect mix of history, comfort, and prime location, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a local—even if you’re just visiting.

For the digital nomad who needs a blend of productivity and relaxation, or the bleisure traveler looking for a mix of business and pleasure, Hotel Belleclaire offers everything you need to balance work and play seamlessly.

On my last morning, I strolled through Riverside Park with coffee in hand, looking out at the Hudson. I couldn’t help but think: Maybe the West Side was where I was meant to be all along.
