Rimrock Banff: Three Nights in the Rockies Wasn’t Enough

When I say the view at Rimrock Banff will stop you in your tracks, I mean it. I walked through the front doors, saw the Rockies filling the lobby windows, and stood there with my bag still on my shoulder. My husband had to nudge me toward the front desk.
The lobby is expansive, yet it somehow feels cozy. Modern and rustic, warm and inviting, and it never tries to compete with the mountains. Most guests end up parked in a chair with a drink, looking out the window.
The timing matters, too. Rimrock just reopened in October after a $115 million CAD renovation, and it’s now the first Emblems Collection hotel in North America, Accor’s newest luxury brand. You’re getting the new version.
This was a bleisure trip for me. I had my laptop open most mornings, and then I let the property take over. Rimrock makes that split easy. The work gets done, and the rest of the day belongs to the mountains.

The Rimrock Bathhouse Belongs in the Same Sentence as Iceland
I’ve done bathhouses in Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Those are my benchmarks. The Bathhouse at Rimrock is the first place outside the North Atlantic that I’d put next to them.
The team here gets the ritual. Heat, cold, rest, repeat. They built 9,600 square feet around it: saunas with mountain views, multiple pools, meditation rooms, an ice bath, a cold plunge. Nothing feels tacked on. Every room has a job, and every room does it well.
Go in the morning and you’ll open your laptop clear-headed. Go after your last call and the workday is gone. Or go twice. Nobody’s counting.
We went multiple times a day.
The Snow Day
Our suite came with a wraparound balcony, and the view from it changed every hour. By the time we checked out, the whole thing was buried in snow.
That snowy day is the one I’ll remember. We stayed in. We watched the soft flakes fall past the windows while working through an in-room dining experience with a wine pairing. Then the massage came to us.
Rimrock’s in-room massages are run by Mountain Mobile Massage, and Krista Peters gave me one of the best massages I’ve ever had. She didn’t run through a routine. She paid attention to where I was holding tension and worked on that. Her training goes beyond a standard spa menu, too, with modalities that include craniosacral therapy and IMS (intramuscular stimulation). If you carry your workweek in your neck and shoulders the way I do, book Krista.
Where to Eat at Rimrock
Parker’s Table. The hotel’s main restaurant is named for Elizabeth Parker, a co-founder of the Alpine Club of Canada. Ask for Kennedy. She’s the kind of server who reads the table, knows the menu cold, and makes the whole night better without ever hovering.
Chef Matt runs a kitchen that sources locally wherever it can, and you taste it. His food has a rare quality: it’s rich and satisfying, and you still walk out feeling good instead of stuffed. Order the bison. And the bread tray. Who doesn’t love a bread tray?
Social. We grabbed lunch here at a window table, which is the only table you should want. Get the fried fish sandwich. It’s a solid midday reset between calls, with the Rockies as your backdrop.
The Market. Need something on the go? This is where we got our coffee every morning before heading out or settling in to work. It also stocks chef-prepared picnic items if you’re spending the day in the park.
A Note on the Wilderness Adventure
We booked the hotel’s Wilderness Adventure, and I want to set expectations so you book the right thing. The name suggests trails. It’s a guided drive. You watch the animals from the car. It’s a great way to see the park’s wildlife up close, especially if hiking isn’t your thing. We saw dozens of elk - it was incredible.
If you want boots on a trail, tell the concierge team before you go. They’ll put together something that actually gets you out into the backcountry.
Bring the Whole Team
By day two, we were talking about who we’d bring back with us. Rimrock would make an outstanding spot for a company buyout or a brand retreat. Picture strategy sessions in the morning, the Bathhouse in the afternoon, and dinner at Parker’s Table to close it out. The setting does half the team-building for you. Getting people away from their usual surroundings and into the mountains changes the conversation.
The logistics are covered. The hotel has more than 18,000 square feet of meeting space and offers group adventure packages. Parker’s Table has two private dining rooms that seat up to 10 each, which is perfect for a leadership dinner. Mountain Mobile Massage also books corporate and group events, so in-room massages can be added to the agenda, too.
The Details
The staff here are warm in a way that feels real. Turndown service is thoughtful, with small touches that show someone paid attention. The Movement Center is more than well-equipped, with Technogym and Peloton equipment, so your morning routine survives the trip. And if you climb, there’s a 20-foot climbing wall and a bouldering wall waiting for you.
If a work trip lands you in Calgary, Rimrock is about 90 minutes from the airport. Add three days. You’ll go back to the office a different person.
Three nights were not enough. We are already talking about heading back.
